I did the same thing. I have a BOSE factory system, so I added the LOC to the rear 6x9 wire, then ran the RCA Cables from there to my amp.
As for your wiring kit, it depends how many watts your amp is.

4 Gauge would be more than enough. If money is an issue then 8 Gauge will suffice. As for the speaker wire to the sub, You can go 12 Gauge. Check Out KnuKonceptz Speaker wire, They have great prices
