What converter box do I need for Sony HDTV & DVR?

I have a Sony Bravia HDTV, model KDL-32EX301 and a Sony RDR-VX560 combo unit, which records/dubs either way: VHS to DVD or vice versa.

In order to record TV shows on the DVR, Sony says I need a converter box because I don't have one. I only have the cable tv coax cable plugged into my TV, not the recorder because there's no coax hookup on the recorder. They say I need one to record shows off TV and onto my DVR-VX560. I don't know which one to get, there seems to be many different ones and I don't know which one will work! Does anyone know?? Thanks in advance :)What converter box do I need for Sony HDTV %26amp; DVR?
According to the Sony Web site: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stor鈥?/a>

Your unit is fully ready to go and you have everything you need. Except maybe an RCA cable. (Available everywhere) Use the cable box you have to record from.

From SONY: under features of your unit.

Line Input Recording lets you record your favorite television programs from a cable or satellite set-top box. and the Set Top Box Controller (IR Blaster) controls the channel functions of most cable set-top boxes or satellite receivers for timer recording.

%26gt;%26gt;EDIT Sorry I misunderstood. You said you had a DVR which acts a converter box. I see you mean it is a DVD recorder not DVR. You DO need a tuner of some type. A cable converter box also called a set top box will work.

The kind you need is dependent upon what type of cable you are getting. If just basic cable all you need is an analog unit. These are normally FREE from the cable company or available at any flea market, garage sale. They do not need authorized, all they are is a cableTV tuner they take the cable TV signal and convert it to channel 3 or 4 for viewing or recording.

A digital cable converter box acts as a tuner it picks up the analog as well as the digital channels and converts them to channel 3 or 4 for viewing or to a Audio Video output. This is the better type as you get the digital channels as well as the analog ones. All cable is going digital so you will need one eventually.

A digital High Definition cable converter box acts like the digital one only it picks up the High Definition stations as well as the regular digital ones.

A DVR is a digital converter and recorder in one unit with a built in channel guide. This is by far the BEST way to record TV. The unit uses a computer hard drive to record the program and it plays it back from the hard drive. Most of these units have two tuners so you can record one show and watch another, or record and rewind live TV at the same time. NO tape, or DVD's to buy. They record up to 100 hours of programming. You can delete and reuse the file space just like a computer hard drive. The built in channel guide allows you to record a show by highlighting it on the menu and simply pushing a button.

Hope this helps and I am sorry I did not read your question correctly when I answered the first time. What converter box do I need for Sony HDTV %26amp; DVR?
If your cable box has composite video outputs (yellow for video, red/white for audio), you should be able to use those to record onto your DVD recorder. Unfortunately, I don't think this unit supports unattended programmed recording, so you'd have to set the cable box to the desired channel and manually start the recording. Really lame!

You really should get a DVR with a hard disk. Your cable company undoubtedly has one for rent, probably HD as well. What converter box do I need for Sony HDTV %26amp; DVR?
