Visual Basic 2010 - Unit Converter?

I am attempting to make a unit converter that converts between km, m, cm, miles, yards, feet, and inches. I have a textbox that is used to input the value to convert followed by a space and the units (i.e., 56 km) and a second textbox where the user types what unit they want to convert to (i.e., cm). When converting, the output will be displayed in the second textbox. (I know this is complicated, but this is the way it is to be done).

I am doing this using sub and function procedures and If blocks and Select Case blocks (i.e., keeping it as simple as possible). I also need to add a comma every 3 digits in the answer, which i am unsure on how to do. Any help would be appreciated on where to start or how to accomplish this. As an added note, I am a beginning programmer so if explanations could be kept in simple terms, I would appreciate it.

Here is something I have tried but I can't figure out what is wrong:

Private Sub Button1_Click(..)

Dim smplTB As String = "1,000.045 km" 'simulated textbox entry

Dim parts() As String = smplTB.Split(New Char() {" "c}, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries)

parts(0) = parts(0).Replace(",", "")

Dim valPart As Double

Dim unitPart As String

Dim numDecs As Integer = 0

If Double.TryParse(parts(0), valPart) Then

'valid number

unitPart = parts(1)

Debug.WriteLine(unitPart %26amp; " " %26amp; valPart.ToString)

If parts(0).IndexOf("."c) %26lt;%26gt; -1 Then

numDecs = parts(0).Length - parts(0).IndexOf("."c) - 1

End If

Debug.WriteLine(numDecs.ToString)

End If

Dim meters As Double = 0

'from unit converted to meters

Select Case unitPart

Case ""

Case "km"

meters = valPart * 1000

Case "m"

meters = valPart

Case "cm"

meters = valPart / 100

Case "mm"

meters = valPart / 1000

Case "in"

meters = valPart * 0.00254

Case "ft"

meters = valPart * 0.3048

Case "mi"

meters = valPart * 1609.3

End Select

Dim toUnit As String = "in"

Dim toVal As Double = 0

'to unit based on meters

Select Case toUnit

Case "in"

toVal = meters * 39.37

Case "ft"

toVal = meters * 3.28 ..... etc, etc. through all the units

End SelectVisual Basic 2010 - Unit Converter?
By your program example it looks like you are on the right track. Remember normally someone will not enter in a number with a "," in it soo your text input example of "1,000.045 km" probably would have really been entered 1000.045 km in the text box so I don't think you need to worry about parsing out the "," in the input number... (I may have misunderstood.)

OK... Now to get the number and variable seperated from each other look at the Text Box entry as a string and look for the "Space" Use the instring command like this.

WhereSpaceIs = instr$(Text1.Text," ") This will give you where you need to split the string.

So now on the left side of the space should be a number. On the right side is the begining units.

So since you have a string in your hand you will need to convert the left side to a real number like this. valPart=Val(left$(Text1.Text,WhereSpaceI鈥?This will make the valPart var a real number again.

Then you can get the units by using the Right$ command such as.

unitPart = Right$(Text1.Text,Len(Text1.Text)-WhereS鈥?This should give you the right most characters for your units. It's already a string so you don't have to do anything with it.

Then your Text2.Text box holds what you want to take it to so all you have to do is run either your Case's that you have outlined or I would actually do If Then statements.

When you go to put your answer back into the Text2.Text box you will convert it back to a string using the :

StringAnswer = Str$(Answer) command then just test the length of this to add your comma's back in....

Im using a high-low converter to install a system without a head-unit, do I have to connect both rear speakers?

I am installing a high to low converter to hook up subs and a amp on my chrysler 300. I thought I had everything connected, but im not getting anything to the subs? I have power to the amp, a good ground, good acc connection. Now do I need to connect both rear speakers to the hi low converter? Shouldnt it still give me something if I only use 1 rear speaker?Im using a high-low converter to install a system without a head-unit, do I have to connect both rear speakers?
You can just connect one wire from the rear speaker to the high low converter and to your power amp.

Do i need an rca converter for a factory head unit?

if i have an 06 scion tc?

cuz ive heard that the factory radio is an actual pioneer headunit and i should be able to hook my amp up to those rca's instead of runnin it through the converter. Also, if that is the case, would it make my system sound any different switching from the rca converter thing to regular rca's?Do i need an rca converter for a factory head unit?
if it has rac outputs then use them.they have signl converters from jl audio and rockford fosgate that convert signal from headunits with out preamp outputs

How to install a line output converter to a stock GM head unit?

line output converter or loc in connected to the radio harness when u have no rca jacks in back of head unitHow to install a line output converter to a stock GM head unit?
you need to buy a high to low converter on one side you have the speaker cable and in the other you have the RCA outputs and second you need to cut off the rear speaker cables and then attached them to the converter. that's the easiest way How to install a line output converter to a stock GM head unit?
Unless your GM radio is a "Bose" type, then you can tap into the factory speaker wiring right behind the radio. Here are the typical wire colors:

left front: tan (+), gray (-)

right front: light green (+), dark green (-)

left rear: brown (+), yellow (-)

right rear: dark blue (+), light blue (-)

The wire pairs should be located next to each other in the factory harness.

You do not have to disconnect the speakers, or cut the speaker wire. If you can strip the wire without cutting it, you can just solder the LOC wiring right into the stock speaker wiring.

In GM vehicles with rear deck speakers, you can usually tap into the rear speaker wiring inside the trunk.

  • Java unit converter help?

    Does anyone know how to make a unit converter with java using if, else, else if; .equals?

    For example:

    2.0 miles equals:

    321868.8 centimeters

    3218.688 meters

    3.218688 kilometers

    Java unit converter help?
    I would pick a base unit to start. Then I would convert the entered number to the base unit and then to the desired one. For example, lets say you choose meters as the base unit.

    First, I would define several constants to convert to meters.

    static double KILOMETERS = 0.001;

    static double CENTIMETERS = 100;

    static double MILES = 0.00062;

    static double INCHES = 39.37;

    Then, declare the variables.

    String start_type , end_type;

    double start_value , base_value, end_value;

    After storing the type of conversion, I would put the if-else statements to convert to the base.

    if(start=="miles") {

    base_value = MILES*start_value;

    }

    else if(start=="centimeters") {

    base_value = CENTIMETERS*start_value;

    }

    ...

    Finally, put the if-else statements to convert to the end type.

    if(end=="miles") {

    end_value = 1/MILES * base_value;

    }

    else if(end=="centimeters") {

    end_value = 1/CENTIMETERS * base_value;

    }

    ...

    Hope this helps. Good Luck.

    Is there any problem if I convert adsense ads unit using ads converter?

    Their Policies state you can't alter the code in any way but so far they have seemed willing to let people get away with this. The could ofcourse choose to enforse their Policy at any time! Personally I'm not sure I'd risk it.

    The other thing to be careful of is the maximum number of ad units per page. If you put an ad unit in each post then you will have to ensure that no more than 3 post appear per page and ofcourse you would have no scope for a header or sidebar unit. The 3 posts per page maximum is a Policy they do enforce quite rigidly.Is there any problem if I convert adsense ads unit using ads converter?

    depends on the car and if it has a factory amplifed system, but usually you can just tag it off the rear speaker output behind the deck. coloring varies from car to car, need more info for colors. or you can just grab it directly off the speakers in the car if you can get to them.

    Some times those Color codes are not very helpful. I had the same problem and i call the maker and they told me everything i needed. it only took about 5 mins. My module had 6 wires. L-+/R-+ /GND/ and the last (6th) wire was unused. check if the module has a ground. as far as left and right, if all you are connecting is a single amp for subs it doesnt matter as long as you are consistent with whatever pattern you follow. Connect it and if it sound like its out of phase or wierd try swapping you wires. tahts only if you cant get an answer from the manufacturer.Trying to connect RCA Converter to Original Head Unit, any ideas?

    Unit Converter on Ti calculator?

    How to do this problem on unit converter of a ti calculator.

    1.75g to milligrams.

    I would really appreciate if you help me. I really need someones assistance.

    Thank You.Unit Converter on Ti calculator?
    Hi.

    I have both a TI-85 and a TI-86 calculator, and on these machines you would use the CONV utility: press the yellow [2nd] key, then the [5] key to get to the conversion menus.

    Then, for the first problem, select the MASS submenu, and for the second problem, select the LNGHT submenu. To navigate through the submenus, use the [MORE] key.

    However, these problems are so simple that you can solve them in your head:

    Milli means 1/1000,

    Micro means 1/1000000,

    Nano means 1/1000000000.

    and next are Pico, Femto and Atto.

    Connecting subs to stock head unit with line out converter?

    i got a line out converter and i need to keep my stock head unit cause its still under warranty. im trying to connect 2 subs (1200w 12") and i was wondering if i can connect the converter to the rear speakers in the trunk. would this work? if so would i use both speakers since i have 2 subs or can i only tap into one?Connecting subs to stock head unit with line out converter?
    I have done this and never had any problem besides a little noise. Go ahead and tap both of your rear speakers. You will Need to run all the other necessary wires to your trunk, make sure you use a good quality amp kit. Running your remote wire can be tricky, I usually wire it to the ignition power to the radio. This way when I turn the key on the amp also turns on. To help eliminate some possible engine noise keep the power wire away from any signaling wires.

  • Should i get a new head unit or a line out converter?

    im upgrading to aftermarket speakers and thought i might as well upgrade the head unit as well. the head unit that i bought doesnt have rca outputs so i would have to get a line out converter right? i just want to upgrade because my speakers are blown, not trying to go all out.. it is a 1996 avalon btw. so is it really worth getting a new head unit or will a line out converter do just fine?Should i get a new head unit or a line out converter?
    AH YES AN EARLY MORN DEBATE,,, mr.wakeup AND georgewi... is a lil off he did not say anything about an amp or subs so an rca output is not needed(right now) he already bought the headunit and getting new speaks is just fine for "not going all out" if U want to upgrade to install an amp LATER then U will need the use of rca's,,,,AND MAYBE NOT, if LATER U put an amp for the highs U could run speak wires to the amps HIGHS LEVEL INPUT CONNECTION WHICH NEEDS NO RCAs,,,,Should i get a new head unit or a line out converter?
    If you dont plan to do much more to this car audio wise, then line out converter might be fine. But would not give you much versatility later on. IE: putting in more speakers or subwoofers or install amplifiers later on.

    A different head unit would give you the options to upgrade and be more versatile later on.Should i get a new head unit or a line out converter?
    MrWakeup has not a clue to this. As the line out convertor is to add an amp or ampliers to a stock stereo that doesn't have preamp outputs.

    So to answer your question, you can use the line out convertor, but the signal is still going to be from the stock stereo. You can get a clean sweep made by JL Audio to upgrade the signal from the stock deck, since the stock deck it tuned down so that the life of the stock speakers is lengthened. So you might be better off getting a new deck with the preamp outputs, since it will have a much better signal. I would suggest any deck from Alpine, best signal going at this time.

    How do I fit an old Clarion car stereo?

    I have an 07 reg Seat Altea. The factory fitted CD player is faulty and I want to replace it. I have a Clarion db328r head unit - about 9 years old - which I want to install. What - if any - wiring converters/connectors will I need to purchase, or will it just plug and play?

    Also, is there any way that I will still be able to use the 3.5mm jack input which is built into the car? Can this somehow be connected to this head unit?How do I fit an old Clarion car stereo?
    IT may be worth while popping down to Hellfrauds to find out if there is a compatible wiring harness adaptor. This will basically plug into the factory fitted wiring socket and provide a new socket to plug into the back of your replacement stereo. This may also enable you to use the 3.5mm jack and your troubles could be over... but if it means you cannot use the jack..

    Having failed that and no harness be available then you can always hard wire the stereo using bullet connectors and insulation tape. The wiring is dead easy. Its just about figuring out the speaker wires, radio wire, power wire, memory wire and dimming wire - so there is not always a handful. Depending on the wiring that is already in there, there may be more e.g. for the 3.5mm jack.

    If you find yourself unable to connect to the 3.5mm jack then.. you have a few options... for example:

    1. If you are trying to connect an iPod then you may consider: http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/category鈥?/a>

    2. Manually add another AUX input to your Clarion: http://lifehacker.com/293261/add-an-auxi鈥?/a>

    Tools required for this: pair of old headphones (3.5mm), soldering iron, and insulation tape.

    Hope that helps.

    Or, you can use the alt codes - hold the Alt button on your keyboard, and type the number on the numberpad, with Number Lock on. Note - you can't use the number keys above the letters; if you have a laptop without a dedicated numberpad, you might have to do something special - I have to press Fn-NumLock, and then some of the regular letter keys work as the number pad.

    Most of the math symbols can be found from Alt-224 through Alt-253 - common Greek letters, and signs like 卤, 鈮? 鈮? 梅, and 鈭? If you want more than that, you might have to the Symbol font, or use the Character Map - go to Insert -%26gt; Symbol -%26gt; More Symbols to open up the Character Map. If you change the font to Symbol and scroll through, you can probably find what you need: all the Greek letters in upper and lower case, and things like the partial derivative or the del operator (the upside down triangle), or the "for all" symbol (the upside down A).

    How many speakers or woofers ou plan on using? 2-channel or 4 channel amplifiers? How about the Monsoon amp? It was probably a 4 channel amp. You may want to check out this website and get some ideas. Oh yeah, one more thing. You need to find out how many Ohm's your woofers run on (2 or 4 ohm). I would probably pull everything out and start from ground up. Always a good idea to check the ohms for every speaker before you hook additional things up to it.

    if your amp doesn't have RCA inputs then i'm assuming that it uses Line-In (which is speaker wire inputs) so ya, just tap your back speakers using speaker wire and that should get your signal just fine. just make sure that you get your phasing right, it could take a little playing around. If your phase is off you will know because you wont have any bass.

    If your amp does have RCA connecters and you were refering to your head unit not have RCA, then you need to use an rca converter to go Line in from your speakers and then from the converter to the amp using the RCA, that's the only way.Can i wire subs to the rear speakers of a car?
    well if you want your subs hooked up you'll need a line out converter it tack onto your rear speaker wires and converts it to rca but since you don't want to use any converters then your answer is no you can't

    What gauge amp wiring kit do i need for a 400watt RMS sub and amp?

    what kind of wiring kit would i need if i used a line out converter because i'm using the factory head unit?What gauge amp wiring kit do i need for a 400watt RMS sub and amp?
    2g for power and ground

    converter has 14g for the speaker conectionsWhat gauge amp wiring kit do i need for a 400watt RMS sub and amp?
    I did the same thing. I have a BOSE factory system, so I added the LOC to the rear 6x9 wire, then ran the RCA Cables from there to my amp.

    As for your wiring kit, it depends how many watts your amp is.

    The less amount of watts, the smaller amp kit you need. Do some research, check out Crutchfield.com's "Does It Fit" Section or somethin..What gauge amp wiring kit do i need for a 400watt RMS sub and amp?
    4 Gauge would be more than enough. If money is an issue then 8 Gauge will suffice. As for the speaker wire to the sub, You can go 12 Gauge. Check Out KnuKonceptz Speaker wire, They have great prices

    Do 2003 expeditions stock stereos have RCA outputs?

    The stock unit has the 6 disc changer and is a nice deck that I don't want to change. I don't feel like pulling out the entire dash to get to the back of the stereo just to see if it has RCA outputs. If it doesn't have the RCA outputs will it be worth it for me to splice into the rear speaker wires to add a line out converter?Do 2003 expeditions stock stereos have RCA outputs?
    Nope! ha. I have an '01 Expedition, I feel your pain.

    The HU is really easy to get out though for future reference, get these pullers from Scosche

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d鈥?/a>

    The rear speaker wires are a task that wasn't fun for me to fish out.

    Every online wiring chart was not matching up with the wiring on my expedition.

    I had to take apart the door and locate which wires went to the window switch and which went to the sub.

    Then all you do is get some butt joints and cut the speaker wire, and then crimp the new wire in one end of the connector and the speaker wire in the other (once you've stripped it).

    Do this for both speaker wires in each side, and run them to the amp.

    For amps, I DO NOT suggest getting a LOC! You will LOSE so much sound from it.

    Look into an alpine amplifier. I got the mrp-m850 for around $250, pushes out 850 watts RMS at 2 Ohms. It is a mono amp but you could run two wires out of each connection and run at 4 ohms (425 watts RMS). The Alpine amp has a special connector that you crimp (or solder) your rear speaker wire extensions to and plug that into the amp. It has alot more sound than with a LOC, but still will be a bit quieter than if you had RCA's.

    I currently use one 10" Alpine Type R in a custom sealed box, and it shakes the Expedition relatively well, though I am pushing 850 watts RMS into a sub rated at 500 watts RMS. If it doesn't last, oh well, I'm moving up to the Type R 15. Hehe.

    Hope this helps. If you need help with the install feel free to ask (especially for where to run the power wire thru the firewall-I found the perfect spot)Do 2003 expeditions stock stereos have RCA outputs?
    No stock radio has RCA outputs.

    You best bet is to get a LOC (line output converter) to convert speaker output to RCA level output.

    Many amps today do not need a LOC and have one build in, try look for one that does.

  • I want a computer in my car is it this simple?

    Here's the plan! Buy a PC (extra small). Get a DC to AC converter, Plug the PC up. Connect a small (touch screen) monitor, connect a wire from audio out to aux in on my pioneer head unit. that seems too easy, is this it? I got a 300 watt amp and sub too, will drawing that much power hurt my car? What about a laptop with a car charger if that first one wouldn't work?I want a computer in my car is it this simple?
    As long has you have a good battery ( red top) or dry cell,and you dont run the systems to much while the car is off ( no more than 30 mins) you should be fine. Just start the car up ever 30 mins, let it run for bout 5 mins and it will charge battery back up. When you add the up the total watts your probably only looking at a total drain of maybe 1000 watts * about average amp size *.300 for cpu, 300 for audio system, and maybe 270 for your head unit.. The laptop and car charger route will work but i would rather run a 16 gauge wire from the battery, behind a fuse ,to a DC - AC converter. That way you can run from the battery not the cig lighter. That way you can pick the fuse size and not use the 20 or 30 amp fuse that runs behind the cig lighter. If you want to be safe you can run all of these behind a small capacitor.

    a toaster uses about 1000watts.

    i don't know what a corn stove is. if it is comparable to a toaster, than perhaps 1000watts.

    Around 360 watts. Get maybe a 500W inverter. If you want to run it off of a generator, there will be plenty of capacity.

    The online unit converter is correct.

    You probably are making the mistake of using 1 Fahrenheit to Kelvin as the unit conversion factor. This is a mistake, because they do not share a common zero point.

    You need to use the conversion between exclusively the "size of the degrees"...not the actual temperatures.

    There are 1.8 Fahrenheit degrees in each Kelvin.

    On Japanese brand vehicles you need to get a converter wiring box. The Japanese vehicle's brake and tail lights are wired differently than other vehicles. I've seen them for sell in WalMart and U-Haul. Part stores would probably have them as well. Or you could get them online.

    I want to connect my camcorder to an external battery. Should I go through the AC-DC converter or DC directly?

    I have a Sony HandyCam DCR-PC5E camcorder that, to run off AC power, uses a dummy battery (NP-FS11 style) that has a wire running from it, which connects to an AC-to-DC converter and then, obviously, to the power socket (the cable from the camcorder to the AC-to-DC unit is called DK-115).

    Check out http://www.henrys.com/manuals/sony/DCR-PC5(en).pdf

    Page 5 for cable photos

    I could keep things simple and just connect the entire cable to portable AC battery pack such as Black %26amp; Decker CPI100B:

    http://www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide/Product-Details.aspx?ProductID=17894

    Or I can use just the DK-115 half of the power cable and connect it directly to a battery (well, with something in between to control the voltage). So I'll be going DC to DC directly.

    1) Will I be saving much power by using the 2nd method, by not having to convert DC to AC to DC, that its worth bothering with?

    2) And if so, how can I construct such a device? For the life of me I couldn't figure out the name of the DC cable connector of the DK-115. I will need to know it so I can purchase its female counterpart. And also, what should I use to regulate the power from the battery? (I've looked for a complete DC package that I can buy ready but none are compatible with my make/model camcorder)

    Thanks!I want to connect my camcorder to an external battery. Should I go through the AC-DC converter or DC directly?
    well, guy, i think there is no need to prepare a AC or DC charger for your camcorder. for the price of a replacement battery is so cheap, i once wanted a charger connector for my camcorder, but after i explore the online battery store, oops! the price of a battery is only C$12 ,so i got a new battery, never charger again. here is the website: http://www.canada-battery.ca/camcorder-b鈥?/a>

    Transmission,,which is better overdrive or locking tourqe converter?

    also can i make an external overdrive unit out of an old transfercase,,,,,i have to do something at 55mph im doing 22rpm and im watching the gas gage drop i would like to get my rpm down to like say1,this is a ford f-250 5 speed manual,mazda trans,it had the 3 speed auto but swaped it out for the 5 speed stick that brought my rpm down about a 1,from 3 to like 22.im thinking external overdrive would bring my rpm down.ideally id like to be doing 70 mph and in 5 gear doing 1rpm,now that would be great.external overdrive units are so expensive so was maby thinking i can build my own out of a transfercase so let me no what you(the world)thinks,thank you!.Transmission,,which is better overdrive or locking tourqe converter?
    If you try and run this elephant of a beast at 1,000 RPM's in 5th gear, the engine will be begging for mercy, and sucking gas like crazy. You are probably not going to get any better than what you are getting now. The 250 is a large truck, and 2,200 Rpm's is pushing it at cruise, I would not want to go any lower than that. That is a lot of weight to move and the engine will work harder if under a load all of the time trying to pull it. The lower RPM's will lower the power output of the engine, making it work harder to pull the weight of the truck. As far as building your overdrive unit out of a transfer case, you would have better luck swapping your engine out for a 7.3 liter diesel, it would be easier than what you are suggesting, and save you fuel and maintenance costs in the long run.
    Dude, you are all over the place on this question. Forget building your own overdrive -- if you are THAT talented you can afford to buy more gas or a new car. Put bigger tires on the truck -- it's a cheap way to lower RPM's though the fuel savings will be nominal. If you REALLY feel energetic, you can swap rear diff. assys for different gearing.Transmission,,which is better overdrive or locking tourqe converter?
    i have a clutch type converter with overdrive.1 good thing about overdrive is you save gas but you lose power on a hill.Transmission,,which is better overdrive or locking tourqe converter?
    Man IF MY CAR ran at "22" R.P.M at 55 MPH, GEEEEEEEEEESSSH, LIKE 238.6 miles to the gallon!

    but then again my engine would need to be a 12 cylinder diesel out of a antique Cruise liner or something to get down to the 22 rpm area, hhhhhhmmmmmmmm?

    I like what the ford man says above me, yepers
    you are gonna burn up your motor if you lug it like that.

    It's not rpm that uses your gas it's LOAD and you are dropping rpm but adding alot more LOAD.

    At what RPM does your motor make it most torque. ok that is where it is most effecient.

    So that is the rpm range you want to be in at 70 mph for the very best fuel economy.

    How can I rig a portable ac unit up in a vehicle?

    I'm going to pick up a 71 skylark from Indiana in July. I live in Cali and I have to go through the mojave and mountains to get there and there is no ac in the car and I won't be able to get a central air system until I get back home. I need to hook up a portable ac unit in the car and run it from the power of the car (hooking it to the battery like I would do for an amp). I need to know what kind of fuses I would need and if I would need a power converter. I'd like to just snip the end off the power cable and hook it directly to the battery, through fuses, but I need to know exactly what I will need. I'm really looking for a solution because it's gonna be freakin HOT and I need to figure out how to do this. Any suggestions or better ideas would be much appreciated. The Skylark has cig outlets, just pickup a 12V fan and mount it "use the sticky tape" to the dash fan facing you and the suction end facing passenger side window. It won't be a mountain breeze but it'll keep you cool.

    I bought a portable AC window unit for my mom's room, But there are size issues.?

    She NEEDS this window unit, But the minimum window width has to be 24" But her windows are only 18", Is there any converter to make this work? It's for the sake of her health, Someone please help.I bought a portable AC window unit for my mom's room, But there are size issues.?
    other option..is find a stand to sit the window unit on..find a local sheet metal shop and have them make you a reducing plenum that you can go from 24 to 18 inches that can go out the window..attach a long enough hose for the drainage to go out the window..the plenum may cost you around 45 to 60 dollars to have made..the main thing is to find a stand that will be the same height as the window sill..its your mother so make something happen..we only get one..God Bless you both..
    You have only a couple of choices.

    1. Get a tape measure and measure the window size and get a unit that will fit in the window.

    2. Have a competent craftsman install a new window that will accept the AC unit you purchased.

    I doubt that there are any other reasonable solutions. I hope she has a recovery. Strokes are very damaging to everyone involved, including the care takers and family.I bought a portable AC window unit for my mom's room, But there are size issues.?
    how big is this room?
    that's a rather large unit for a single room.
    there is no way to fit that unit into that 18 inch window which is rather small for a window. you can usually make a smaller window unit fit by extending the sides, which most window units do.how many btu's is the unit that you bought?I bought a portable AC window unit for my mom's room, But there are size issues.?
    Turn it upright. You'll need to drill a drain hole in the bottom corner but it'll work providing it is 18" or less that way.

    The easiest way to fix the problem would be to get a cheap, single channel, active crossover, and ditch the one that is on board. Look for one with a steep slope, 18 - 24 db/octave. This one would work pretty well.

    It's a two way. But, it would still work.Stock radio head unit on 2009 lancer es, adding amp and subs help, high/mid coming in through subs...?
    Add 450 mFd capacitors in parallel to the woofer. That will filter them so bad all you'll get is the lowest moan, bark and growl. It sounds like you're wishing there was a separate bass-only track you can tap. There is not.

    How can you tell if you have fried a unit?

    ive jus ordered a unit off the net form american and as i live in the uk i had a little us to uk plug adaptors and put it on, but i then read the back of the unit and it said 117v.. whereas i turned it on using a 240v plug, im jus worried that i have fried it or summin, i mean it didnt make any bang or hissing etc when i plugged it in, jus nothing.. will it still work if i bought a transformer to 117v?

    but i wanna know if when somethings blown or fried would i of heard a bang or hiss or anything because it didnt do anything. im hoping its still alright as ive jus ordered a power converter for itHow can you tell if you have fried a unit?
    You may have fried the unit. You can look it over and see if there's a fuse that's blown. It may not be installed so it's accessible from outside the unit. You may have to take the cover off and look for a fuse. If you didn't hear any sizzle or bang or especially if you didn't smell any burning odor you may be OK. Look for the fuse and hope for the best.
    I think it's dead. Check the fuses by all means but I guess it's a safe bet the mains transformer will be dead. This is the bit that takes the incoming mains voltage (110v US and 240v UK) and drops it to the voltage required for the internal electronics.Sometimes there is a selector switch on the back for you to select the input voltage.How can you tell if you have fried a unit?
    it depend if the unit you plugged in has an internal fuse this may have

    blown if so remove the back and look make sure its unplugged first

    if it has a fuse and its blown you may be ok if not check transformer

    see if its melted or burnt check board for damage if so bin itHow can you tell if you have fried a unit?
    If After you connect it to a transformer it does not turn on, then it is probably fried.
    Most times you won't hear anything. A piece of wire melts in the fuse and everything shuts down...if it ever started.

    If you're lucky that's all it is.

    Check the plug fuse. Putting 240v through a 117v circuit pumps a lot more amperage through it so it may have blown the mains fuse.

    Then check the unit for a voltage change switch and switch to 220/240v if it has one.

    Plug in.

    If it doesn't work it may have blown the internal fuse in the unit.

    Take the back off, replace the fuse if it's blown, and try again.

    If it still doesn't work, you've blown the circuit somewhere.

    Bin it,or if you're any good at circuit repairs, have a go.

    If there is no voltage change switch then as you say, get a transformer.

    It must be rated for at least the power usage of the unit and preferably twice that for cool running.....20w for a 10w unit.

    Remember that USA runs on 60Hz and we are on 50Hz., which will affect frequency-dependant motors. They will run slower here if no frequency change is suppplied in the change over switching circuit on the unit, or in the transformer.

    Careful therefore with units having cooling fans inside, and get a good air path into them and plenty of ventilation.

    Best of luck.

    Can i program a rca directv remote to work with a digital converter box?

    I have a magnavox converter box, and i lost the remote control, the box is the model they sell at WM. I have about 10 other remotes that are magnavox brand,but they wont even "learn" the code gfor it. I read somewhere that the rca directv rc64 is a great universal remote, but im not sure how to go about programming it for the converter box, for instance, what imput would i choose. Im asking because i have that one on hand. also, i know most of the programming manuals ask that the device be powered on first to try the codes, and this box doesnt have ANY buttons on the unit itself besides a standby/on and off-so i can only turn it onto standby and you need a remote to turn it "on". does this matter?Can i program a rca directv remote to work with a digital converter box?
    I just recently had the same problem. Most universal remotes aren't compatible with digital converter boxes because they are still fairly new and many companies haven't updated their databases. The RCA brand didn't work for my converter box, however the Logitech Harmony remotes will work with converter boxes, but they are expensive. The prices range from about 40 dollars to 300 dollars, but it's worth it. Install is simple. All you have to do is run the Logitech software on your computer and follow the instructions, and you will need internet service to look up the codes online. If you have any troubles, I think they give you 90 days of free tech support.

    Don't think it's possible. You're going from a low-quality source to an HD display. Also, that converter box doesn't appear to be very good and is probably adding noise itself.

    How many amps on a round about average does it take to run a small window unit air conditioner?

    I have a 3000 watt power converter and i am wondering if it will power a small window unit air conditioner.How many amps on a round about average does it take to run a small window unit air conditioner?
    Your 3000 watts = 25 amps

    A 120v 5000 btu needs about 15-20 amps with surge.

    if you are running the above you will be ok.

    Ok after your 2nd posting I found u some additional info:

    http://powerinverter.blogspot.com/2005/0鈥?/a>

    I believe this will inform you of what you seek. Good Luck.
    It depends on the voltage that is required to run it. Higher voltage units generall draw less current but provide the same cooling capacity. It also depends on the BTU rating of the compressor.

    Somewhere on that unit it should say the FLA or RLA rating for the compressor or the entire unit. If you are running it off an inverter then you are going to need a lot of deep cycle batteries or you are going to need a very high capacity alternator and keep your vehicle running. Your best bet would to rent or buy a generator.

    Actually your best bet would be to park underneath a tree.How many amps on a round about average does it take to run a small window unit air conditioner?
    A 'small` window AC will take 600-800 of those Watts

    with the compressor running.

    The trouble is the starting surge when the compressor

    'kicks in'.

    Electronic inverters don't like surges and overloads.

    Better not have more than 1000 'other' Watts

    connected while that AC is running.

    That AC will also run your battery down a lot faster

    than you're used to seeing it happen.

    The higher drain rate decreases the total power

    available from any given battery set.

    Remember, 5 A, @ 120V. will be ~50A. @ 12 V.

    How many amp hours in your batteries?How many amps on a round about average does it take to run a small window unit air conditioner?
    What is the current rating on the a/c unit ?

    I really can't see it being a problem.

    Power = Voltage / the current.

    Look up VIR and "ohms law"
    Don't think so. How many amps will the converter produce. You need about 12-13 amps to run the air conditioner. Why don't you run it off your own apartment power?
    depending on what size it is,,, (it should say this on a small tag on the unit itself) between 15- 20 amps..... are u going camping or something or living in a van or what???
    Run? mabe just.Start and run no way.You are going to need at least a 5kva surge to start the compressor.
    15A would do.

    Subs and Amp hook up to Head unit! help!?

    im having a problem with my amp and subs. im trying to hook em up to a stock head unit of a 02 toyota camry and my stereo does not have any RCA output in the back. i bought a converter that goes hooked up from my speakers to RCA but it does not sound powerful. is there any ay cutting or wiring that i can do to have the sound come out from the head unit and not the speakers??? please help! or any recommendations???Subs and Amp hook up to Head unit! help!?
    make sure that you are "in phase" meaning the positive and negative wires are hooked up correctly from your converter. usually i try to install the converter behind the head unit. that way when you upgrade your head unit the wires will already be there.good luck!Subs and Amp hook up to Head unit! help!?
    First, try clipping the white wire with a black stripe that goes into the converter. If you start getting more bass, the you have the converter wired incorrectly, and should swap either the white with the white/black, or swap the gray with the gray/black.

    Your Camry may have a factory amplifier. If it does, it could cause several complications, but nothing you can't get past. Look at the back of the radio for 2 blue plugs. If you see them, the wires you need to connect the adapter to are in the smaller of the two. If it doesn't have them, You have a factory amplifier, and the easiest (not necessarily the best) way around this is just to connect your adapter to speaker wires at the rear speaker from inside the trunk.

    Hope this was helpful.Subs and Amp hook up to Head unit! help!?
    The easiest way to do it would be to find the speaker wire at the speakers and connect to it. if you go to trunk and can see the speaker wire for back speakers it would easier to get it from there. also usually the line out converters have an adjustment on the so you can adjust the input going into your amp for your subs.

    They're not even that much. You can buy them from Onlinecarstereo.com for $5-10 bucks. All you do is wire it to your speaker leads behind the factory radio and run RCA cable from the converter to your amp. You may have to wire your own remote lead 'cuz some of the LOC's don't have them, but it's not hard.Alpine type r, PLEASE READ. Factory head unit, factory speakers.?
    Alpine Type R 6x9 SPR-69 bass was classic six-by-nine. Tight, well balanced, taut and with nuance and ability to track even rich bass lines with a great melodic ability, quite removed from a crappy cheap subwoofer that can only go boomp boomp badly, let alone one of the new generation of Alpine鈥檚 shallow HAMR woofers (as seen in the new Euro demo Nissan Infiniti demo car!) that sound so fabulous. I love the swivelly tweeters and reckon that if on your rear shelf, you don鈥檛 attempt to point their output at the front of the car but rather work out some Newtonian angle-of-incidence stuff with your back window and spray the highs directly flat at the screen to the rear if you can to best distribute the high tones.

    What protection do I need for a 15hp rotary phase converter?

    I bought a capacitor panel and 15hp 3 phase motor rated 38amps/230v to build a rotary phase converter to power my 7.5hp pressure washer. The washer motor is rated for 21amps and with diesel heater the whole unit is rated for 25amps. The panel manufacturer says that in the panel, there is a relay which automatically starts the 15hp motor. I assume this "relay" also disengages the start capacitors when the motor is started. Reading the NEC code book, it looks like I need more "protection" -thermal, overcurrent, etc... The manufacturer of the panel says a 50amp circuit breaker is enough.

    I'd like this phase converter to be up to NEC specs. What else should I add to this system to make my local electrical inspector happy, and allow me to sleep at night. I'm installing a smoke detector in the garage which will be connected to my home's fire alarm system.

    NEC code citations, make/model info, and general specs on needed devices are greatly appreciated.What protection do I need for a 15hp rotary phase converter?
    Your best bet is to call your local inspector, have him come over, show him everything you got, and what you want to do.

    My experience is that they are very helpful, and glad to be involved with the project before it is started. It makes their work much easier at the end, by saving time and conflict.

Since I couldn't figure out which to hook to in the begining I just bought an inline converter and installed that but now I want to find the right set of rcas, if I was to hook my amps rcas to the wrong rcas runing from the back of the cd player would it mess up anything?

    or can I try plugging it into whichever ones and see what happens?

    I did try it in the ones that said "audio output" and I hooked the red to red and the black from the amp to the white one (since there was no black)

    Connect remote wire to stock 05 caravan head unit?

    I am using a low signal converter to install a couple subs/amp in my 05 caravan. I have not yet removed the head unit or dissasembled anything as I need to get some tools before I start. Ive read a lot so far but no one talks about the remote wire. Is that easily added to the stock head unit?Connect remote wire to stock 05 caravan head unit?

    On some line out converters there is one built in, in others that don't have that just find an acc power source or just splice it into the red wire behind the head unit, all the remote wire does it tells the amp when to turn on it isn't a major power source for it. One thing that I would do it fuse it, better safe than sorry.

    Whats the name of the line out converter?Does it matter where i install the line out converter?
    go to one of your rear speakers and do it there,keep it away from the power line running the amplifier and keep the RCA cables away from that power wire too.some are fixed and some are adjustable follow the instructions in the package.any RCA cables running to close to the power source running the amp can cause a high pitched sound coming threw your speakers and you don't want that.and i must say line out converters can be a pain in the butt there is nothing like the right head unit that's set up to do the job.if you already have a powered jbl system from the factory i would recommend a good car audio installer before you create more problems then you solve.

    Hooking up amplifier to factory Head unit?

    I have a 4 channel amplifier, 2 rear speakers, 2 front speakers and 1 sub woofer. I want to hook all this up to the factory head unit. I know where to hook the remote wire, ground, and 12volt. My question is where do i hook the speakers up? Do I run the 2 front and back speakers directly to the amp bridged and then hook up the one sub? Do you have to use the RCA inputs and outputs on the amp for it to work?

    I was also reading about LOC (line out converter). To use those, is all i need to do is tap into the speaker wires running from the speakers themselves to the head unit?Hooking up amplifier to factory Head unit?
    Hook all 2 rear speakers and 2 front speakers to your head unit. and your sub alone to your amplifier. and you do need RCA jack going out of the head unit and in the inputs of the amplifier only for it to work. ( this is the right way and only possible way)

    and you are right about the LOC

    The biggest GFI for whirlpools you can find for starters.I'm putting together a 15hp rotary phase converter. What protection do I need?
    Did this capacitor panel and 3phase motor come together as an assembly or were they purchased separate? A motor is required to have overload protection as well as branch circuit protection, but if this a complete assembly it is probably included in the assembly. I'll check my code book shortly and get back with you on the exact info you need. .... After reading your question multiple times, it's sounds like this was purchased as an assembly. If this is the case , the only protection you need to worry about is the 50 amp breaker to feed the capacitor panel, the wire size (this would be a #8 AWG), and the receptacle with a 50 amp rating. All other requirements should be included in the panel. If this panel was purchased separately then the motor protection requirements are: 430.6(A)(2) the overload protection based on the nameplate which is 38Amps, Table 430.250 will give us the amps of the motor per the codebook (15 hp/230V/ induction style motor=42A) Table 430.52 to find the max size the fuses or circuit breaker for the branch circuit 42A x 250% for a inverse time CB = 105A or 42A x 175% for time delay fuses = 73.5A, then use 240.6(A) to get the standard size fuse or circuit breaker, which would be 100A for the CB and 70A for the fuses.{Note: this is the largest they can be to allow for starting without exceptions} Now for the branch circuit conductors 42A x 125% [430.22(A) motor rated at continuous duty] =52.5A which is your branch circuit conductor size and the wire would have to be a #6AWG. This is allowed from 430.6(a)(1)There are a lot of if's and but's to this, and with out all of the information it's hard to give you an exact. Hope this helps more than it confuses. Is there any easy way to hook these up without buying a new head unit? I have thought about just getting a 3.5mm male to male aux cable and a splitter, and plug one end from my ipod into my amp, via aux to rca converter, and the other through my car's aux input. I really would rather hook it up through my head unit though.

    I don't believe my stock unit has any pre amp outputs.How Do I set up my subs to my stock head unit?
    From what I can tell, it looks like the second one will accept a signal from your regular speaker wires, but you will probably have to disconnect the rear speakers in your car. At least you won't have to fiddle with the head unit at all.. But I always say if you are going to do something, do it right. Wait till you can get a new head unit with pre amps. It will probably have a better built in amp to power the rest of your stock speakers as well. Definitely worth it.

    Question about CD AUX and USB quality on my car head unit?
    Any time you have the opportunity to convert to an analog signal your sound will be better because that is closer to the natural wave form. Example for high end home stereo is to have a player go to a D/A converter then to an analog amp before the speaker. Now, to be honest, only 5% of the people will tell the difference in a quiet home environment in the home system, so in a loud vehicle most likely you never will see the difference if you could flip back and forth between the inputs. I would do whatever is easier.

    Installing subwoofers on factory head unit?

    I have a Mercury Sable 03 LS Premium with a factory head unit. I can't put an after market head unit due to the climate control which is attached. I'm looking to install a few subs in the back and I have heard that I could splice into the speakers from the back into an amp with speaker wire inputs. However my amp that I had in my 99 Jetta does not have speaker wire inputs. There is a converter which I assume I would splice into the speakers, feed the wires into the adapter which converts the signal into a preamp signal to be converted over to the rca jacks. One thing I'm confused about is the remote wire which turns the amp on and off. Where exactly would get this remote wire from inside my car?? And if anyone knows any other alternate ways around this problem please let me know! Any input is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

    That car sux for installing head units. The converter thing you are looking for is a LOC ( line out converter) and it is what you said, speaker level inputs to rca out. .. the remote wire can be wired to anything in the car that turns on with the ignition ( can be at the ignition, can connect to the factory radios ign. wire.) if you want you can wire it to the battery and put a switch on the line. or you can wire it to the fuse box.

    Does a 1000 watt transformer/converter draw power when no power user is plugged into it?

    I have a 1000 watt transformer/power converter (110/220VAC up/down) and have been told by some people that if I leave it plugged into the wall that it will continuously draw 1000 watts of power even though the, for example, TV that is plugged into it is turned off. The TV's max power rating is only 245w. They even state that if the transformer is plugged in but no item is plugged into the other side, that it is still drawing that power. I think they are wrong because this transformer is passive unit.Does a 1000 watt transformer/converter draw power when no power user is plugged into it?
    They are wrong.

    The converter will likely draw some tiny amount of power even if nothing is plugged into it, however the power lost is quite small.

    If your TV uses 245 watts and being used, the total power used by the converter are those 245 watts plus the loss in the converter, typically 2 - 5 percent of what is passed through.

    One crude measurement of power loss is quite simple. Measure the temperature of the transformer. If it gets warm it's been using some power. Hot, it's been using up more power. Room temperature, it's been using very little.

    Aftermarket vs. factory head unit?

    I'm upgrading my '07 Jetta HU to a JVC unit with preamp outputs. Normally, I'd know exactly what I'm doing in regards to the car audio hobby, but as this is my first time dealing with HUs, I was wondering what kind of difference the JVC would make over my factory unit. Especially in regards to signal quality both to the factory component door speakers, and the aftermarket subs which are currently running off a speaker level converter. Is it true the signal would be clearer? Especially to the subs, by using direct RCAs?

    Also, it makes 20W RMS to each channel so would that clear up the muddy highs and AUX source alternator whine I hear at higher volumes? I will get a separate full range amp/speakers if necessary at some point in the future, just wondered what to expect from just an HU upgrade with factory speakers?Aftermarket vs. factory head unit?
    I wouldn't anticipate a significant improvement.

    There is no reason an LOC can't provide clear, strong signal for an amp. I'm not sure why the reputation for LOC's having poor SQ is so popular. My guess is a lot of people use the cheapest LOC they can find. A good one shouldn't degrade the signal at all.

    As for power - I don't think 20w rms is uncommon from today's stock HU's, so it's possible you won't be gaining much in terms of power. My '99 Taurus produces 20w rms/ch, however, it uses an external amp.

    I would be optimistic the alt whine you got from the aux input could clear up, but if you're plugging the new HU directly into the stock wires the problem may transfer from the old HU to the new.

    I once cleared up some alt whine simply by disconnecting the stock HU ground wire, attatching a temporary extension, and trying various ground locations under the dash. It wasn't difficult to hear which ones worked and which ones didn't. Once I determined the best one I ran the wire neatly to the new location and made a permanent connection -- simple and successful troubleshooting.

    Can you put a window A/C unit in a pick up truck? Will it work?

    My husband has a 96 dodge dakota pick up. The air conditioning unit went out and it will cost us $3000 to get a brand new one. My husbands idea is to buy a window A/C unit from walmart and hook it up in the back window of the truck to a converter to the cigerette lighter converts 12 volt to 110. Will this work? Just like that Larry the Cable guy movie health inspeactor. I think it wont work. PS: if you think it wont work please put reasons why or why not. I am going to show him the responses.Can you put a window A/C unit in a pick up truck? Will it work?
    there are not enough amps coming out of that cigarette lighter to run an air conditioner, the smallest you can get is like what 4 or 5 thousand . ? if he installed a second BIG DEEP CYCLE BATTERY, THEN PUT AN heavy duty converter BIG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE LOAD, ABOUT A 200 AMP ALTERNATOR TO KEEP THE TRUCK RUNNING (At least you can keep the ac on low LOL) then there should be no problem. As a rough guess, 600 to a grand worth of stuff, maybe, best of luck I think you should put it in a side window though, that way people can see it !!
    Not enough amperage to run a window air conditioner.

    Apparently you need a complete system, compressor, condenser, dryer, etc., compressors alone are roughly $150-$300 depending on model of vehicle. And that figure does not include installation.

    $3000 is everything including installation which includes tearing out the dash if need be.

    I believe I'd check with another shop.Can you put a window A/C unit in a pick up truck? Will it work?
    I'm not sure if it will work or not, but if your going for style, I wouldn't do it. Plus how will you keep it in the window? Going to glue it?? or screw it in?? Might ruin another part of your truck that way. Also, are you sure the whole thing needs replaced? I was looking on http://market.autopartsfair.com and it's seems you may be able to save yourself some money if you find out exactly what is causing the trouble. --Sorry best I could do, I have very little knowledge regarding anything mechanical or about converters.Can you put a window A/C unit in a pick up truck? Will it work?
    Yes you can make it work but keep this in mind. You will need to make sure the unit does not move when you it bumps etc. It is going to block your view. The thing will leave a nice sized hole if someone decides they want to take it.
    No . The electrical amp draw will be to much for the trucks electrical system . Try checking out junk yards for used A/C compressors
    sorry to say no
    If he's so good mechanically that he could make all that work... why doesn't he just fix the AC on the truck? $3000 baloney. The most expensive thing on there is the compressor head, and that probably costs $300 tops for a refurb.

    The problem with your window A/c, aside from gettign enough power to run it... You know, watts are watts. Find out how many watts the A/C unit will take then go price an inverter with that many watts. You're going to find like "1500 watts". The inverter should be at least twice that, so 3000 watts, and then you'll need 3000 extra watts of alternator, which you don't have now. So you'll need one of those giant alternators like the guys with the big stereos go for.

    And then the thing will be too wimpy, not strong enough to keep the car cool. Car A/C is seriously powerful because it has to fight all the sun pouring in the windows and roof. You can test that, park the car in the hot sun, roll down a side window, stick the A/C unit in the side window, some cardboard to fill the gaps, then run an extension cord to your house. See which wins, the A/C unit or the sun. I'll bet on the sun.

    Also it's not made for the vibrations of driving, it won't hold up.
    Can't say whether or not it will work for sure. (prob not) It can't hurt to try though the cig lighter will be hooked through a fuse if the fuse blows than all you have to do is replace the fuse. ($5) What part of the A/C is broken? The blower i'm guessing? Just make sure he grounds everything properly! :)

    Note: My A/C "Blend Door" went out causing the A/C to only blow hot. I fixed it with a nail (the part of the motor that turned and grabbed the door had broken off the nail pushed through the post on the motor and grabs the door (works perfect) only ghetto fix i ever really did everything else has been top quality. Point being though sometimes it can be really cheap to do your own work and some parts are cheap and just bolt in. go down to a local "pick a part" (auto junk lot) and they usually have parts for cheap nothing wrong with most of them sure they're used but if they work they work. They wanted $800 for the AC and I fixed it for around 10 cents (cost of the nail)

    European power adapter-converter What one should I use?

    I'm heading to Italy for 6 weeks and I need to know what conveter or adapter I need to buy and I am confused. I have googled it and still I am confused. Something about the voltage or watts and if it is over one use another kind of converter. I have no idea. I will not be using this for a laptop. I will be using it for 1. iPod 2. Nintendo DS 3. Cellphone 4. Energizer rechargeable battery unit (For digital camera) I have found sites to buy them I just want to get the right one and I am confused. I do not want to wait till I get there because I was told it would be cheaper to get it tin advance? Thank you.European power adapter-converter What one should I use?
    Walmart carries a complete kit that includes the voltage converter and every plug adapter you'll need, for $20. It's rugged enough to handle up to 1600 watts, although you'll never have to push it that hard. Here's a link so you can see it online. The stores seem to carry it in their hardware section.

    You can also try Radio Shack, but I think they may cost a little more.

  • Head unit with NO RCA's only speaker outputs?

    The head unit in my vehicle has no RCA outputs only speaker outputs.

    Is it possible to amplify the four door speakers using a high level input on a amplifier?

    Also is there any way I can run a subwoofer?

    Currently I have four components and an active sub running with a high level input and its not sounding very good!

    Does this option make sense: An ISO to RCA (4 way) converter, this would then amplify the door speakers but how do I run a convention 12" sub in an sealed box?Head unit with NO RCA's only speaker outputs?
    If you are wanting to do it properly you could use an Audio Control part an LC6i. You can see this on this link http://www.raysmith.co.uk/LC6i/

    I have used many options and if you want the best solution this is it. This will give you 3 outouts, front, rear and sub, the speaker to RCA leads you get are very poor quality and will most probably bring interference into your system.Head unit with NO RCA's only speaker outputs?
    well i have here a alpine speaker to line out level converter so you must be able to buy them

    Bought Apex DT 502 converter box from Circuit City before bnkrptcy. It doesn't work. Now what?

    Bought it 1/11. It smells burnt and doesn't work right. Apex gave me a bunch of hoops to jump through and then they will Repair!! the unit. I don't want a defective unit.Bought Apex DT 502 converter box from Circuit City before bnkrptcy. It doesn't work. Now what?
    You're going to have to work with the manufacturer on this issue. Circuit City has shutdown and will not take any returns at this point. This is the risk you accepted when making a purchase from a company in Bankruptcy.Bought Apex DT 502 converter box from Circuit City before bnkrptcy. It doesn't work. Now what?
    I have read some bad reviews about Apex converter boxes online. Many said they run hot, and avoid the Apex. Our Circuit City only sold Zenith, I have two they are great. Also Digital Stream boxes sold at Radio Shack are another good choice.

    I have purchased a SATA hard disk drive, where can I find a power converter for IDE?

    I thought that the disk would have a normal IDE power connection as well as a SATA power connection, but it only has the SATA power connection!

    I don't want to purchase a further drive so need to find a converter, but I can't find one!

    I don't have any SATA power cables coming from my power supply unit, only the normal IDE power cables.

    So where can I find a converter that will convert a normal IDE power plug in to something that can plug in to my SATA powered hard disk?I have purchased a SATA hard disk drive, where can I find a power converter for IDE?

    A fan, a peltier board and an 18v DC power converter = my refrigerator works again?

    I have a refrigerator that broke, some cheap Chinese PC board went out and its $40 for a new one. Its got an interface and a thermal control unit, but I figure if I can power the thermoelectric cooling unit and the fan to the heat sink, I can still make it certain level of cold at steady state.

    I have an 18.5 V 3.5 Amp DC power converter for a laptop that I want to use to power the 12V 2-2.5 Amp (50-77W) Peltier plate, and the fan which works just fine at the full 18.5V, 3.5 amp and will be fine with less. What kind of circuit do I need to build to make sure I don't fry the fan/Peltier unit? If I put them in parallel do you think I'll be fine? I don't even know how to calculate values for this kind of circuit, as I have very little experience with electronics (just resistors/capacitors/inductors in school). Any help would be appreciated, and please don't tell me I'm an idiot and should buy a new PC board, because I already know that's the best solution to my problem.A fan, a peltier board and an 18v DC power converter = my refrigerator works again?
    If the peltier module is in fact 12V and 50-77W, it draws 50W/12V = 4.17A to 77W/12V = 6.4A. If you connect 18V to it it will try to draw much more current than this, overloading both the peltier unit and the power supply.

    No good. Just smoke or blown fuse.

    The power supply has a total power of 18.5V x 3.5A = 65W, so insufficient to convert to a lower voltage using a relevant switch-mode supply, especially considering losses of 10-20%.

    You could connect a 12V supply with at least 7A continuous rating across the peltier unit and the fan and that would work, just cooling to the minimum temperature the insulation vs heat-sink allows.

    Can rotary converter be used? Have 1 Phase Power but have 3 Phase Soft Serve Machines that Need to be Used.?

    Hello,

    I will be opening a soft serve frozen yogurt shop soon and can only easily find 3 phase water cooled equipment. The issue is my leased space currently only has a 1 phase panel box. The building itself does have 3 phase in the basement but it would require pulling a cable all the way to my unit and changing to a 3 phase panel as well as adding a 3 phase switch in the basement.

    Can I purchase a Rotary Phase Converter that would be able to continuously run 4 machines that are 3 phase on my 1 phase panel? I would like to avoid any unnecessary expensive electrical upgrades if there is a conveter I can have installed by a licensed electrician.

    Below is a link for the machine I will be using, I will have 4 machines running in the store.

    Thank you,

    FelipeCan rotary converter be used? Have 1 Phase Power but have 3 Phase Soft Serve Machines that Need to be Used.?
    Your machines seem to be nearly 10kW each, (though the data sheet was not entirely clear to me) for 4 of them you are going to need considerable current on the single phase feed, (perhaps in excess of 200A) so unless you have a large single phase panel you may have to upgrade the wiring anyway.

    Phase converters are available and could be an option, but a 40kW unit could cost in excess of $3000 US before installation, and installation to operate four machines might be costly, as each machine needs individual overload protection so you will essentially be installing a three phase panel anyway. So while a phase converter is possible (you may want to get one designed for CNC equipment as they have better voltage control) it just might be cheaper to wire for three phase.Can rotary converter be used? rotary converters are expensive, bulky, noisy, hot...

    You are lucky you have 3 phase power in the basement, use it, it will be the cheapest path you can take.

  • How would I install a Pioneer deh-14 (car stereo head unit) in my room?

    I have a Pioneer deh-14 car stereo head unit and I would like to install this in my room to use as a cd player/radio (because I do not currently own one).

    The only component I have so far is the head unit (it has no wires,adapters,or antennas, it is just the head unit plain)

    I am able to purchase

    what is needed such as a psu or 12v dc converter/transformer.

    I cannot use a battery on account as it is a fire hazard (my mom said no).

    I need the exact (very detailed) instructions on how to do this with either the psu or 12v dc converter/transformer (must include power, antenna, and speaker wiring guides, and any other important guides available).

    Thank you! (in advance)How would I install a Pioneer deh-14 (car stereo head unit) in my room?
    move out and then you can use a battery

    Stock head unit to amp connection question?

    I have a Kicker ZR360 amp and a "10 kicker comp sub, in a toyota T100 pickup with a stock head unit, the head unit doesnt have pre-amp outs so inorder to connect these can i splice a wire going to a rear speaker and conect it to a RCA cable and plug that into the pre-amp imput on my amp or do i have to get a Line out converter and go that route?Stock head unit to amp connection question?
    With an amp that has high-level inputs, you can use a speaker tap. But you cannot run it into low-level inputs (RCA) without using a LOC. The speaker output impedance does not match properly and all you'll get is noise.

    How to make an appropriate boost converter?

    I am making an ipod docking station and i have bought a unit to tear apart which contains speakers and the electronics to charge the ipods. However, I also want to add an additional 2 speakers running at 12V but the purchased unit only runs at 5V. So I was wondering is there anyway I could pump up the voltage to run the additional speakers but keep the 5V running everything else, I know the boost converter would most likely work however I don't know exactly what electrical components are required for this boost. Also do all ipods charge at the same voltage, its just a standard USB voltage output isnt it?How to make an appropriate boost converter?
