Why wont my sub and amp work?

I have an 95 infiniti j30. I honestly have no idea how to set this up and i need help. I plugged the amp into the car battery and the sub into the amp but it still doesnt work. I was reading somewhere that i need a head unit converter? I dunno why it wont work...Why wont my sub and amp work?
wires needed for amp to play speakers

--the amp will need to be grounded and have a fused wire running to the cars battery for power

--you will need a "remote" wire going from the radio to the amp to tell it to turn on

--you need RCA cables to send the audio signal from the radio to the amp

--then speakers wires running from the amp to the speakers

--if using the factory installed radio you dont have a spot to connect your RCA wires behind the radio so you will need a "line output converter", it hooks up to your rear speaker wires and gives you so RCA outputs, here are some http://www.sonicelectronix.com/viewcat.p鈥?/a>Why wont my sub and amp work?
Inktown nailed it. You're missing quite a few things but don't feel bad you have to start somewhere.
