I'm going to pick up a 71 skylark from Indiana in July. I live in Cali and I have to go through the mojave and mountains to get there and there is no ac in the car and I won't be able to get a central air system until I get back home. I need to hook up a portable ac unit in the car and run it from the power of the car (hooking it to the battery like I would do for an amp). I need to know what kind of fuses I would need and if I would need a power converter. I'd like to just snip the end off the power cable and hook it directly to the battery, through fuses, but I need to know exactly what I will need. I'm really looking for a solution because it's gonna be freakin HOT and I need to figure out how to do this. Any suggestions or better ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks! How can I rig a portable ac unit up in a vehicle?

a portable ac unit runs on 120 VOLTS of AC Current.
your car's battery puts out 13.5 VOLTS of DC Current
.....and a portable ac unit pumps out as much hot air as cold air unless vented to the outside.

The Skylark has cig outlets, just pickup a 12V fan and mount it "use the sticky tape" to the dash fan facing you and the suction end facing passenger side window. It won't be a mountain breeze but it'll keep you cool.
